Opponauts: I am going to sell my 2001 M Roadster, which is at my mom's house in Atlanta and just doesn't get used. S54 motor, almost all Dinan upgrades, and I think under 50k miles (with PS2 tires that have under 5k on them). Most of you know that I am extremely OCD about my cars, so it's in very good shape. If you or anyone you know is interested, please let me know (and I'll give you the friend price).

Here's how much it doesn't get used: I don't have a picture on this computer. But it's black/black, just like this one.

She does when she drives it. I think she's always been a faster driver than I am. But she just turned 70 and moved to a smaller house, and she asked me "how much longer do I have to have this car in my garage". So it's time.

I think it's probably that she's retired, so she doesn't have much to worry about anymore. And therefore "that stupid car in the garage" ends up being a big bogeyman in her mind. I don't have a big storage facility or I'd keep it. Her main car is an A4 Avant (my recommendation).

Also my New Year's resolution was to hang out and bang hot chicks get rid of at least 2 cars. (Bonus points if you get the reference.)

is the s54 the updated and uprated engine?

its too bad that you have to make room in your mom's garage. i think this is one of those future classics. probably not with the upside of the coupe, but i imagine they'll hold or even increase in value in the next 10 years.

Are you referring to the issues with the early S54 (con rods and bearings I believe)? My understanding is that affected early S54 motors mostly in the M3s, and the max RPM and fuel cut-off for the M Roadster and M Coupe were reduced to make it even less likely. This car has never been raced or tracked and doesn't really spend much time up at high RPMs. I understand from people that work on BMWs that the issue was limited to cars that were both (1) early and (2) really pushed, but I admit that I haven't needed to investigate it.

A similar one just sold through BAT auctions for $19.5k. Lower mileage, similarly non-LSB color. :) That's probably near the top of my range. The friend price is lower.

Oh the recent BAT auction had a good point/counterpoint on the S54 motor and any issues, as well as a lot of other discussion of these cars. I agree the coupe will end up being more collectible - but if I owned a warehouse and had more time, I'd keep this car. It's a hoot to drive.

im not completely familiar with the engines, but did read something a little back about the engine being updated, and the later model having improvements. i suppose that would be another reason to not be too attached.

and i totally agree about the warehouse and time. maybe we should all find one together to stash these future gems.

Best of luck, quite a fantastic example you have there. If it was a clownshoe coupe I would be on the phone with you right now promising a deposit.
